Three Flying Months

Three months ago, I was driving down to Horsham to look after Chris and Sophia’s lab Loki while she was in hospital – bypassing the hard labour, but undergoing a much more taxing ordeal as the surgeons delivered their beautiful bouncing baby, Constance Jane.
Connie is now three months old and every picture and video shows her smiling as though she’s living her best life. Despite the traumatic start, her parents are getting it right in spades, as you can see.

Bit of a cop out this week because on Monday I was detained for a stretch inside UHCW – that’s a hospital, not a prison. 3 years ago when the talented Mr Natesh removed one of my parathyroid glands which had become infested with an adenoma (benign tumour) causing my system to leech calcium out of my bones. This led to osteopenia and after its removal I set about averaging 6miles every day for a couple of years. Unfortunately, another adenoma grew, this one far more aggressive, leading to constant Saharan thirst and ultimately a hypercalcaemic crisis (dehydration so severe 4-5litres of water a day couldn’t cure it).
But he saw it off and, a mere 8 hours later I was tripping down the stairs to freedom without the nightmare (for me) of an overnight stay. Had to cut back on the walking for a few days, but already done 5miles today, so things are finally returning to normal. And after 6 months drinking virtually no alcohol because I wrongly assumed the pain was a stomach ulcer, I’m looking forward to a large glass of 19 Crimes with tonight’s steak.
